The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Yeah, I know - but I would hate if some loony took it litterally. Friday, the gun owners and manufacturers lobby called for stationing an armed guard in every school in the country. So if I ever was to write a book about management and leadership the first paragraph would be " Always be a good guy, even under pressure - you have the gun, use it wisely"Īnd, because you never know who reads your posts on the god ole' interweb - I am not talking about real guns and shooting anyone here - the gun is a symbol for the power you have as a manager.

You have the gun - you decide more or less who is going to have a job tomorrow, if your team feels good about their job and their workload, if there is a good feeling in the workplace or not, so why not try to make it a good experience for all and only use the gun when there is no other way out? So that is quite some power and how, when and how much you are going to use it, is all up to you and that brings me to what I think is missing or at least should be mentioned in every article and book about management and leadership - always strive to be a good guy!

Like it or not, but when push come to shove, your finger is on the trigger and you decide how its going to end. One thing that have made me wonder a bit and something that I think most often is forgotten is that as a manager, you are the guy with the gun! They been using all the dirty tricks in the book and at last Good Ash get hold of the shotgun and - well, the rest is history as they say.Īs a manager I've read a lot of books on leadership, had some company training and generally been following the subject of leadership - of course hoping to learn more and get inspired. If you know your pop culture you recognize Evil Dead III and Good Ash fighting Bad Ash.
